Presentation of the Trio_U project
 The Trio_U project

For a little bit more than 10 years, this project develops a CFD code that is object oriented, massively parallel and dedicated to scientific and industrial applications related to the nuclear industry.


 Numerical approaches and domains of application

Besides the standard capabilities of single-phase turbulent flows based on classical statistical closures, the developments more particularly pursued within the project are the following.

  • Direct Numerical and Large-Eddy Simulation of two-phase flows with two main objectives:
    • explore fundamental mechanisms of interfacial flows (bubbly, strarified with or without phase-change)
    • predictive analysis of flows with large interfaces
  • Industrialization of Large-Eddy Simulations of single-phase flows for the nuclear safety
    • Validation with dedicated experiments
    • Implementation in physical applications like the thermal fatigue, bore dilution, ...
    • Implementation in design studies dedicated to the next generation reactors (GEN IV)

 The Trio_U project partners

The Trio_U project is mainly funded by the Objective Divisions of the Nuclear Energy Division of CEA.

The structure of the Trio_U software allows it to be linked to other softwares supported or developed by CEA.

  • The SALOME platform can be used for different stages of the Trio_U computation chain: CAO, meshing, data edition, etc.
  • In the ALLIANCES platform, Trio_U is used for the computation of thermo-aerodynamics of nuclear waste storage rooms.
